Preventing skin disorders

Unfortunately, not all skin disorders preventable, including genetic conditions and some skin problems due to other illnesses.

But, it’s possible to prevent some infectious skin disorders by following few simple ways as mentioned below.

  • Avoid direct contact with the skin of other people who already have an infection
  • Don’t share items such as blankets, hairbrushes, clothing or swimsuits
  • Get vaccinated for infectious skin conditions, such as chickenpox
  • Clean/ sanitize things in public spaces, such as gym equipment
  • Washing hands with medicated soap regularly
  • Avoid excessive physical or emotional stress.
  • Consume a balanced and a nutritious diet.
  • Get sound sleep for atleast 6 hours
  • Drink plenty of water

Here are some tips for preventing some non-infectious skin disorders:

  • Before going to bed, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and water
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or other irritants with bare hands
  • Moisturise well, but with gentle or no pressure on skin
  • Protect your skin from excessive cold, heat, and wind
  • Cover self well when in dusty or polluted areas
  • Fluid intake should be adequate
